SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT FOR TODAY #129: PSALM 107:21-22 KJV.
THE JOY OF GIVING THANKS TO OUR GOD!
Praise the Lord! Give thanks to The Lord!
Acknowledge the Goodness of God!
All of these expressions are rooted in the Hebrew word for thanks - "todah".
Many people wait for a special occasion to give thanks.
Here in the USA, Thursday Nov. 26th is officially Thanksgiving Day. It was originally designated as a special day to honor GOD ALMIGHTY for ALL His blessings to the Pilgrims who migrated from Europe to settle here in the USA. Praise God indeed!
Of course, while it is a wonderful celebration if used as intended, ALL people should be THANKING GOD everyday for the blessings from God.
As we all know, 2020 has been, and continues to be an unusually challenging year.
The whole world is STILL under lockdown, and things are getting worse.
So, it is NO surprise if MANY are NOT in a thanksgiving mood.
But there is a joyful peace that flows when we set aside time daily to give thanks to God for ALL our blessings, big and small.
1. The entire Psalm 107 is about giving thanks to God. This psalm reviews many of God's wonderful blessings to His nation Israel.
2. The spiritual application is for all people. We who have been blessed with the gift of salvation through Christ and the assurance of eternal life should be thanking God every day for this priceless eternal gift.
3. Additionally, we need to thank God for all our normal blessings which we often overlook: food, clothing, shelter, warmth, family, friends, our functional bodies, little moments of happiness, etc.
4. When we fail to praise God for these daily blessings, our focus drifts away from God, thereby facilitating the enemy (the devil) to cause us to become frustrated, angry, and joyless. Declare GOD'S works with rejoicing!
Beloved in Christ, despite all the setbacks of 2020, and the uncertainties of 2021, we cannot afford to not thank God for all His daily blessings.
If you are unsure what these are, make some time today to COUNT ALL YOUR BLESSINGS, and itemize each one on paper. You will be thankful and joyful!
